CV Edges Burbank, 5-4, for CV Little League District 16 Girls Softball Championship

Crescenta Valley scored a late come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Burbank on July 11 at Scholl Canyon Field in Glendale to win the 9-10-year-olds Crescenta Valley Little League District 16 softball championship for the second year in a row.

CV has moved onto the Sectionals.

Burbank (1-2) took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth, and final, inning and needed only three outs to force an “if necessary” game.

However, a walk to Hailey Cookson and a single to Amanda McNamee put runners at first and second base for CV.

McNamee and Madeleina Fisher, who was running for Cookson, then pulled a double steal. A pitcher’s error allowed Fisher to score the tying run for CV.

Selina Mohr followed with a single to send McNamee home with the winning run.

Although Burbank pitching gave up only three hits to CV, the team made them count.

Mohr, who improved to 2-0, went the distance for CV. In six innings, she gave up four hits, four runs (three were earned), walked seven, but struck out 13.

In her previous championship game against Burbank, which CV won, 11-2, Mohr hurled a no-hitter and fanned 13.
