Food Tasting Pairs Kiwanians, Educational Foundation

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada has announced the fourth annual La Cañada Flintridge Wine & Gourmet Food Tasting will be presented from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, in the La Cañada Flintridge Memorial Park.

Co-Directors Daryal Gant and Joel Peterson have teamed with the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Endowment Foundation under the direction of Janna Gosselin.

The wine and food tasting will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and the Endowment Fund will present the first ever Premium Wine Auction from 5 to 6 p.m. Jonathan Tolkin and Brad Weirick will be assisting in this area.

Mark Alexander, chairman of the Food Tasting portion, announced that once again Trader Joe’s will have a presentation of their fine foods and for the first time Taylor’s Steak House will participate. Another local first time participant will be Vons La Cañada. These are just a sampling of the many that will be there.

Le Petit Vendome will once again have many fine wine representatives in place to pour. Last year there were 45 wineries represented, pouring about 100 different wines.

There will be an opportunity for businesses to place ads in the program booklet that is given to each attendee. Nick Berkuta is in charge of this department. The popular Silent Auction will be back under the direction of Gigi Schleuter.

Carl Christensen with Clyde Hemphill will see to the overall site set-up being sure that the shade will be adequate to keep everyone out of the September sun, and making it as comfortable as possible. George Lutes will see to the graphics.

The cost to attend is $40 for the Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting. To participate in the Live Auction one will need to purchase a $10 “bid paddle.” Bill Scherkey, who is in charge of ticket sales invites the public to visit the website www.lacanadakiwanis.org and click on “events” or call 790-9011 for tickets.
