The La Cañada High freshman football team has started off this year with a bang.

Since the season opener 13-12 loss to Crescenta Valley, the freshmen have been victorious over Glendale (33-0), San Gabriel Gabrielino (28-8) and an exciting 21-16 win last Friday over Rosemead Don Bosco to improve to 3-1.

Against Don Bosco, quarterback Jeff Grigg had a great game with 243 passing yards. Receiver and free safety Dodge Williams was the star of the game. Williams, leading both the Spartans’ offense and defense, made 221 combined (receiving/running) yards, 12 tackles and two touchdowns.

The Spartans’ offensive line had an outstanding game, holding the Don Bosco defense and opening holes all night long. Omar Rady ran for 48 yards and scored the third TD.

Defensive players David Miller, Austin Roy, Cole Kendall and Michael Thomas made 36 tackles.

Kicker Andrew Zaimes completed the first Spartans’ point after touchdown in recent freshman history.

Coach Zimmerman, Constantinides and Kasey join the team in looking forward to meeting the undefeated and unscored upon Harvard Westlake team tomorrow (Friday) at La Cañada High at 3:30 p.m.

Rio Hondo League play will begin on Oct. 13 with a 3:30 p.m. game against Monrovia at home.
