Local Singer to Perform at Pasadena Jazz Club

La Cañada resident Teresa Parente returns to Pasadena’s premier jazz nightclub, the Holly Street Bar and Grill, Thursday evening, Dec. 14, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., with solo piano entertainment beginning at 7 p.m.
A longtime favorite on the Manhattan club circuit, where critics lavished praise on her “voice like an Amati violin” and “shimmering, million-dollar appearance,” Parente is also an accomplished stage and television actress. She is familiar to Married...With Children fans as hapless TV reporter Miranda Vera Cruz de la Jolla Cardenal. She has also guest starred on dozens of television series, including Friends, Café Americain, 3rd Rock from the Sun, American Dreams and Malcolm & Eddie, played dozens of wildly varied characters on “The Steven Banks Show” and currently appears in flashback on “Without a Trace” as Anthony LaPaglia’s mother. She was narrowly missed by a hail of gunfire in the December 1st episode of the CBS dramatic series, Numb3rs, and is a familiar face and voice on scores of TV and radio commercials.
Parente’s singing career began in New York City, where she quickly established herself at the most prestigious nightclubs in town, performing an eclectic mix of memorable swing era music and more contemporary R&B;, tied together with delightful patter about growing up in the Bronx with her large and loud Italian family. Critics gushed that she’s a “wicked comedienne and a lilting singer” who “sings the socks off R&B;” with “a mighty, passionate, vibrant voice, similar to Streisand’s.”
Parente will be accompanied by Larry Evans, a nationally known pianist and the creator of the CD “Magnificent Movie Love Themes.” He has played in the Bahamas, all over the Los Angeles area, and has accompanied many prominent singers.
