AYSO Region 13 Wins Thanksgiving Title

AYSO Region 13, which encompasses Pasadena/Altadena/La Cañada, hosted the 2006 Myles Standish Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 24 - 26 at the Rose Bowl.

This is a very competitive soccer tournament and traditionally draws more than 120 teams in divisions Under 10 through Under 19.

This year’s Girls U12 Sectional Team played exceptionally well which led to the team having great success through pool play and going undefeated. Coached by Mary Beth Redding, the girls beat teams from Arcadia, Burbank, Santa Monica and South Pasadena. allowing only one goal through the four games.

The team then faced the other undefeated team from another

bracket, Alhambra, for the championship. After falling behind early to Alhambra, 2-0, the girls played courageously and worked to tie the game in the second half.

After scoreless overtimes, the game went into the penalty kick phase where the local team came out with a 5-4 victory to capture the championship. The contest ended with a huge roar from the crowd as Alhambra’s fifth penalty kick sailed high left.
