Descanso Gardens’ venerable Boddy House will be transformed into the 2007 Showcase House in a first-time collaboration between the two non-profit organizations. Designed by “Architect to the Stars,: J. E. Dolena of Beverly Hills, this elegant 22-room Regency style mansion was built in 1938 for E. Manchester Boddy, publisher of the Los Angeles Daily News.
In 1937, Boddy purchased 160 acres of pristine land and named his estate Rancho del Descanso, which means “rest” or “repose” in Spanish. These 160 acres of gardens, woodlands and chaparral have been preserved for future generations, and provide the magnificent setting for this year’s Showcase House.
Enjoy a snack, light breakfast, lunch or early dinner at Descanso’s on site restaurant operated by Patina. Shop at the Showcase Marketplace for unique treasures. Your ticket includes a garden pass that allows you to return from April 22-May 20 to shop, dine, or revisit the gardens.
Although the Pasadena Showcase House cannot provide wheelchair access to the second floor of the Boddy House, a special video tour of the second floor rooms will be made available upon request. The Showcase House is not a child safe venue. Weekday parking will be available at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. Weekend parking and continuous shuttle service will be available from the Pasadena Rose Bowl.
The Pasadena Showcase House of Design is one of the largest and oldest projects of its kind in the United States. PSHA, through proceeds from this annual benefit, has donated nearly $15 million to youth music and symphonic programs, in addition to presenting its own programs: the Pasadena Showcase House Music Mobile program, the Pasadena Showcase House Youth Concert and the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition.
