It was an enjoyable family evening where La Cañada High School students played pleasant tunes for every ones ears.

The LCHS Instrumental Music Program held its 8th annual California Dreamin’ Dinner Show last Saturday, it’s only fundraising event of the year.

More than 600 community members and music fans enjoyed the annual festivities all for the purpose of helping fundraise money for the music program.

“It was a successful fundraising event,” said Dorit Zirler, chair of California Dreamin’. “I am very please with the turnout and the support of the community.”

“The school district cannot afford to support the additional expenses a band has, this is why this event was important for the future of the band.” said Zirler.

The district only pays for the music teachers. Now, with the fundraised money, the school will be able to pay for additional music instructors, instruments, equipment such as music stands and additional expenses.

In addition to satisfying their pallet with tasty catered food from Burger Continental, attendees got a chance to hear all of the groups from the junior high band and orchestra up through experienced ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Drum Lines. All the music groups, composed of 350 student musicians, had new music to play before a large audience.

California Dreamin’ form part of the instrumental music groups at LCHS 7-12.

Lastly, many attendees formed part of the a silent and live auctions, the popular raffle and many surprises. Attractive Live auction prices were a Las Vegas Get-Away for Two and a Nintendo Wii.
