Gay Men’s Chorus Of Los Angeles (GMCLA) presents the second concert of their 28th season, Lush Life, The Music of Billy Strayhorn, musical arrangements by jazz legend Alan Broadbent with Dr. Bruce Mayhall conducting for his sixth season as artistic director. Lush Life will be directed by Joanna Gleason and will feature special guest artists Billy Porter and Tierney Sutton (replacing the previously announced Linda Ronstadt who will be performing a special concert for the chorus in May).
Lush Life will tell the story of Billy Strayhorn, composer, Duke Ellington collaborator and one of the first openly gay men of color in American music. Strayhorn’s music — from “Lush Life,” to “Take the ‘A’ Train” — has become part of the musical landscape, and this show will be one of the most talked about chorus concerts in its 28-year history. Lush Life will be a co-production of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. Both productions are being supported by a generous grant from ACFEA Tour Consultants.
Performances of Lush Life will be Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices for all performances are $19.50, $29.50, $43.50, $49.50 — except for the new Saturday matinee performance which are $29.50, $36.50 and $42.50.
Children ages 12 and under receive special discounts. Groups from 12 to 24 receive a 10% discount; groups of 25 or more receive a 25% discount.
