Employee union gifts hospital

The Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation is $1,035 closer to their goal of purchasing a digital mammography machine thanks to the Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union.

“It was a donation from the corporate office in La Cañada,” said Margaret Kean, foundation president at Verdugo Hills Hospital. “It meant a lot to us.”

Kean said the donation was not solicited but the members decided to contribute because they knew how important the purchase of the machine was for woman’s health.

“A digital picture is clearer and provides a better diagnostic tool to find turmers,” Kean said.

She added that the machine would also allow technicians to get results faster, and in cancer detection sooner is always better.

“And with a clearer picture it is a better chance of early detection,” Kean said.

The total needed to purchase the machine is $480,000, the fundraising began this year and Kean said they have raised over half the funds already but every dollar counts.

For those who would like to contribute can do so by calling the hospital at (818) 952-2226 or mail donations to the hospital Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1812 Verdugo Boulevard, Glendale, CA 91208 attention to the Foundation.
