Being Christian, Presbyterian

How do you explain to your children — or your neighbors, or your co-workers — what it means when you say that you are Presbyterian?

How do you explain to them what it means to be a part of La Cañada Presbyterian Church in a community that has lots of other churches : Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, others?

This month and next, John and Marianne Thompson, professors at Fuller Theological Seminary, take turns leading a series of classes on what it means to be both Christian and Presbyterian, exploring what Presbyterians have in common with all Christians and what makes Presbyterians distinctive — and what difference our beliefs make for how we live and worship.

Growing Families meets at 9:30 a.m. now through Feb. 17 in Room 309 of the Family Life Center on the La Cañada Presbyterian Church campus.

The church is at 626 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.

For more information, call Gloria hill at (818) 790-6758, ext. 220, or e-mail gloria@lacanadapc.org.

You and your opinions will be most welcome. Join us any Thursday beginning Jan. 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the La Cañada Presbyterian Church library.

Likely topics will include: “The mystery of God,” “The Positive Role of Doubt,” “Is There Anything Real About Spiritual Experience?” “God and Our Primal Fears and Desires” and “New Ways of Thinking About Faith.”
