Steven Johnson earns Eagle rank

Steven Johnson, a member of Troop 398 sponsored by the La Cañada I Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a recent graduate of La Cañada High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Johnson began scouting when he was in elementary school at Paradise Canyon Elementary. He has been an active scouter ever since. He particularly enjoyed back packing trips and summer camps at Catalina Island and the Sierras. He served his troop as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and varsity Scout president. For his Eagle Project Steven installed a new flagpole for Hillside School in La Cañada. Director Bob Frank was delighted when Johnson suggested the idea. The project was supported by donations from La Cañada Kiwanis and La Cañada Rotary Clubs. Construction was supervised by local building contractor Brad Swenson.

At the dedicatory ceremony, Johnson service was praised by Frank, and Congressman Adam Schiff donated a honorary flag flown previously over the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Johnson will be attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After a year of college he plans to serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He feels being a Boy Scout has helped him prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
