LCHS Spartan Boosters also heading back to school

Share

Like many school clubs, sports and organizations, the La Cañada High School Spartan Booster Club La Cañada High School Spartan Booster Club is preparing for the 2008-09 school year.

One of the first orders of business is to acquaint newcomers and remind returning students and parents that the LCHS Spartan Boosters is a support group dedicated to supporting 7th through 12th grade extracurricular activities alive and well throughout the year.

Led by a team of 40 directors, the group supplies uniforms, helps refinish the gym, provides help with the STAR program and supports dozens of sports, activities and clubs. Over $200,000 was funneled to both academic and athletic groups last year.

The Boosters are occasionally considered a stealth organization, because they usually help existing projects, clubs and organizations, spreading their support among a diverse group of activities, rarely taking credit for any particular project.

Over the past years they have provided completions funds for the school’s fitness room, completed the equipment purchasing of the MAC LAB, and wholly funded the Tennant Gym Floor sweeper/cleaner that is used on a daily basis.

An unusual aspect of the group it is that 30% of a member’s fee can be directed to any specific club or organization within the school. In the 2007-08 school year club members directed over $24,000 to specific organizations. In addition to directing membership fees, there are added benefits for each increase in membership level, from dinner auction tickets, VIP seating at the auction, tickets to the annual golf tournament and so on.

Although the Boosters have been around for decades, each year presents a new challenge. Booster Club President Tom McCutchan is hoping that as many parent as possible will join the club, helping provide needed funds for the upcoming school year.

Besides the membership drive, there is the annual Dinner Auction on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Oakmont Country club and the “Quest” golf tournament next May 4 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. All of these activities are ways that the Boosters keep providing support to the 7 – 12th grade extracurricular activities at LCHS.

Consider joining the Booster club, online, during registration, at home football games or during back to school night. The Booster club needs the community’s support in order to continue support our community’s students.
