Spartans fall to Falcons

La Cañada did their best on Thursday night but a strong throwing game by Crescenta Valley and an offense that struggled to put together yards downed the Spartans, 39-7, on Moyne Field at Glendale College.

The Spartans weren’t able to get their offense going until late in the game, with quarterbacks Duke McCaffrey and Dale Robbins going 0-for-6 with an interception on their first six pass attempts. Late in the game, Robbins connected on two passes, finishing the game 2-for-5 with 52 yards.

The bulk of the running work was done by seniors Brian Veeh and Nate Nitzkowski.

Nitzkowski struggled to break the line a couple times, but rattled off two 10-yard runs. He ended his night on a 35-yard run to boost his total to 53 total yards rushing on six carries.

Veeh, likewise, struggled for most of the evening, but still managed 24 yards on six carries.

Senior Andrew Kim did most of the receiving, catching two passes for 54 yards. One was a 13-yard gain on a trick play--a pass from tight end David Miller.

The Spartans will have to move forward this week, watching game films and working on their mistakes and miscues in practice for next week’s match up.

Next Friday, La Cañada will host Glendale at 7 p.m.
