Volunteers working to raise money for LCUSD

Twelve local residents have joined the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation as new directors beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.

They have joined a roster of other dedicated volunteers who donate their time and effort to raise money for La Cañada’s public schools.

Each director agrees to serve a minimum of three years, with the option to renew for up to three one-year terms equaling a maximum of six years of service.

Directors joining this 2008-2009 school year include John Aitelli, Karen Cornell, Chris DeMoulin, Linda Eaton, Patty Garfield, Ronna Mandel, Paul Murray, Jerri Pih, Kathy Selsor, Gita Singh, Nancy Stoner and Elizabeth Toms.

“The Foundation board is a working and fundraising board, and our directors are asked to roll up their sleeves and work hard,” said Deborah Weirick, president of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation for 2008-2009. “Everyone has busy schedules and other outside commitments but these terrific members of our community have agreed to make the Foundation and its fundraising initiatives one of their top priorities. Of course, the outcome of our work directly benefits our children’s education, and every one of us is committed to keeping the excellence in our La Cañada schools,” Weirick said.

Each director serves on at least two committees, along with participating in the Foundation’s major events such as Back-to-School Night, Jog-A-Thon, Golf Tournament, Annual Gala, and Club 365.

Directors attend board meetings that are generally held on the second Thursday of each month, and they are also committed to making a financial donation to LCFEF at least on par with the organization’s stated goal of a dollar-a-day per child for all families.
