Share

To infinity and beyond, contemporary to the Spanish roots of California Mission-style architecture, visitors to the 22nd ASID Home & Kitchen Tour will experience excellence in home design on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Six homes, in Pasadena, Altadena, San Marino and Glendale will be open for visitors in a self-guided tour format from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the interior designers in attendance to answer questions.

Not only will home tour visitors have an opportunity to see the newest and best in interior and garden design but they can shop for treasures in boutiques placed in the backyard of one of the homes.

There will be at least a dozen retail boutiques open for the discerning shopper. Guests can also purchase chances to win a KitchenAid 27-inch free-standing Superba BBQ Grill in stainless steel. The grill is valued at $1,599 and has been donated by Snyder Diamond, one of the event’s sterling sponsors. The drawing, for which the winner need not be present, will be held at 4 p.m. on the day of the tour.

ASID and Allied ASID members whose design talents will be spotlighted in the interiors of the homes include Cynthia Bennett of Cynthia Bennett & Associates; Judith Kenyon Burness, Judith Kenyon Burness Interior Design; Marlene Oliphant, Marlene Oliphant Designs; Mario Saverino, MK and Co. Interior Design and Decoration; Melinda Schmidt, Fremdling Design Group, LLC; and Kristina Urbanas Spencer, Setting the Stage Interior Design.

“We really went for variety this year,” said Angeles Reed, 2008 ASID Pasadena Chapter Home & Kitchen Tour co-chair and allied member, ASID. “There is literally something for everyone.”

Raphael Calvo, an ASID industry partner, said, “These just aren’t showcase houses. The operative phrase is ‘real homes for real people.’”

Calvo said that because real people live in these homes, the designers had to take into account existing furniture, artwork and personal collections. To that end, the homes represent successful cooperation and communication between designers and their clients.
