Luncheon helps Childrens Hospital

On Sept.24, some 200 local ladies attended the annual Fall Friendship Luncheon hosted by Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital. Under the oaks at a charming area home, they enjoyed an al fresco lunch, informal modeling of Doncaster and Etcetera fashions, and a brief talk by Wendy Killaris, manager of Volunteer Services at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).

In addition to supervising volunteers, Killaris oversees CHLA’s toy and book rooms. Every week the hospital gives over 500 toys to patients and their siblings. CHLA’s need for new toys, books, and G-rated movies on DVDs is acute and ongoing.

The guild’s guests each purchased toys from a giving tree to help fill the constant deficit. People can make a donation to the toy or book rooms, by contacting the Flintridge Guild at (818) 952-7978.

All proceeds from the luncheon benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

The club originated in 1947, with a small group of parents interested in financially helping students at the Glendale Junior College. The membership started to grow and to this date the club has over 100 members and about 40 active members. Last year, a total of $22,700 was given to deserving students, which included 27 scholarships and 30 grants-in-aid. This year the organization is celebrating its 61st anniversary.
