Elizabeth J. Adamek and Donald M. Ayres Jr. were united in marriage April 4 in the Chapel at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. The couple are at home in San Diego and plan to take a wedding trip this summer to Italy.
Elizabeth was the sixth generation of brides to use the beaded panel adorning the train of her gown. It was first used by her great-great-great-grandmother at her New York wedding in 1862.
She also wore a three-strand pearl necklace that incorporated necklaces inherited from her grandmother and great-aunt. The groom’s mother lent Elizabeth a Maryland terrapin pin, which decorated her bouquet.
The wedding reception was held at the Mount Vernon Inn in Virginia. On the way to the reception from the ceremony, the bridal party stopped at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. to have their pictures taken at the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Officiating at the wedding was Msgr. Tom Phillips. Serving as maid of honor was Christy Martell. Bridesmaids were Laurie Moses, Clara Yoder, Carrie Tootchen and the bridegroom’s sister, Jen Ayres.
Best man was Scott Sanders and the groomsmen were Jeff Jensen, Phil Barnes, Bob May and the bride’s brother, Donald Adamek.
The bride, a 2000 graduate of La Cañada High School, is the daughter of Charles and Lori Adamek of La Cañada Flintridge. She graduated from the University of Maryland and taught in Maryland before moving to San Diego where she now teaches at Rancho Bernardo High School.
Don graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore in 1996. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2001. He produces the “Chip Franklin Mornings” talk show on AM600 KOGO.
