Otsuka honored with Spirit Award

Sharon Otsuka was awarded the La Cañada Educational Foundation’s Spirit of Outstanding Service Award on Oct. 8.

The award was bestowed during a reception held in her honor, and to thank the foundation’s major donors, at the La Cañada Flintridge home of Mary and Mike Greenberg.

As a volunteer, Otsuka has worn many hats, including that of La Cañada Elementary School PTA president, La Cañada Council PTA president and La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation director. Her current role is La Cañada High School 7/8 PTA president.

Dignitaries for the evening included State Sen. Carol Liu La Cañada Educational Foundation President Jack Schaedel and Asst. La Cañada Unified School District Supt. Wendy Sinnette.

After the award was given, Otsuka received congratulations from those gathered, including husband Norman Otsuka.

Otsuka has two children in La Cañada schools, including daughter, Jennifer, a sophomore at La Cañada High School and son, Matthew, an eighth grader at La Cañada High School 7/8.

The La Cañada Educational Foundation was founded in 1978. Its goal is to provide funding for La Cañada’s public schools.

The Foundation raised more than $1 million during 2008-2009 school year, according to its website.
