Cruise the Eastern Mediterranean with Kiwanis

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada presents its second travel adventure of its season on Saturday, Nov. 21, with the film “Cruising the Eastern Mediterranean,” presented by Mary Lee and Sid Nolan.

Set off from Venice and enjoy spectacular views of the Piazza San Marcos from a ship’s deck as you embark for ports-of-call along the Dalmatian Coast, Greece and its islands, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt.

Cruise the Eastern Mediterranean in the wakes of Ulysses, Aeneas, and the ships of the Venetian maritime empire. Embark for medieval Split and walled Dubrovnik visit Roman ruins in Turkey, wineries on Cyprus and the Bay of Naples. Drive the spectacular Amalfi Coast and sail into Civitavecchia, port for Rome.

Travelers go ashore at Dubrovnik, Olympia, Athens, Mykanos, Santorini, Rhodes, Cyprus, Haifa, and Jerusalem, each offering an array of ancient archaeological sites, charming harbors, flavorful foods and wines, and hospitable people.

Before heading back to Venice, dock at Port Said, entrance to the Suez Canal, and visit the Pyramids of Giza, bustling Cairo, and ancient Alexandria.

This film will be presented in person by the Nolans who have been working in the field of educational media production for over 35 years. Between them, the Nolan’s hold degrees in history, geography, anthropology, journalism and recreational resource development. Their travels have taken them to every continent of the world except Antarctica.

The film will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School, at the corner of Foothill Blvd and Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge.

Preprogram entertainment, beginning at 7:10 p.m., will feature Tom Burrows on piano and vocalist Wendy Alane Smith.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $8.

The proceeds from this series help fund the youth programs of the La Cañada Kiwanis Foundation. This non-profit foundation sponsors the Key clubs at both La Cañada High School and Flintridge Prep. More than 200 young people are involved in these programs and they join Kiwanis in annually providing hundreds of hours of service to the community.
