Holiday Red Bow Bazaar

The La Cañada Junior Women’s Club extendsa warm holiday welcome to its First Annual Red Bow Bazaar at The Thursday Club, 4440 Woodleigh Lane in La Cañada on Friday, December 4th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Spend the evening with friends, family and neighbors at this wonderful shopping event featuring vendors from around the Southern California area, such as: Maryshell Collections, Ronna’s Gifts, Jacqueline B, Stella & Dot, The Treasured Accessory, Designs by Georgina, Kiki Bean & Bedhead Pajamas, RENKO Original Fashions, Dee & Lala, Confections by Wendi, The Classy Bag Lady, The Montrose Candy Store, Bethany Designs, The Gardenhouse, Private Quarters, KALE Handbags, Pure Necessities Skincare & Candles, Silpada Designs Jewelry, Bella Mia Baby, On The Go Bags, Cowgirl Princess, IMFit, and Subversive Nature, Tastefully Simple.

Board Extends Assistance to Local San Gabriel Valley Agencies

Deadline for submission is Jan. 28, 2010, before 5:30 p.m.

WHO: The Tournament of Roses Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation established in 1983 to receive and manage charitable contributions on behalf of the Tournament of Roses Association, its supporters and the general public.

WHAT: The Tournament of Roses Foundation is now accepting applications from non-profit agencies/organizations based in and serving one or more of the following communities: Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, La Cañada, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, San Marino, Sierra Madre and South Pasadena.

Grants will be considered in the following categories: performing and visual arts; sports and recreation; and volunteer motivation and leadership development.

WHERE: The 2010 Official Grant Application Packet is available to all interested applicants at the Tournament of Roses office, located at 391 S. Orange Grove Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91184, via the website at www.tournamentofroses.com/aboutus/foundation.asp or by calling (626) 449-4100. The Foundation Board of Directors will decide on which grants it will fund at its annual Spring meeting. Applicants will be notified of their funding status, in writing, in April, 2010.

INFORMATION:In 2009, grant awards totaled $102,372 and ranged from $1,900 to $10,000 per organization. The average grant award was $4,900.

Philoptochos hosting benefit

The Philoptochos Society of St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church will be having its 40th annual Christmas Benefit Luncheon, “The Glory of Christmas”, on Saturday, Dec. 12, at The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Families In Transition in Pasadena, an organization who provides educational support for families who reside in shelters, motels, and/or live “double-up” with another family, as well other local Philoptochos charities.

The benefit will begin at 11 a.m. with a Christmas boutique and Santa’s Kitchen followed at noon with the luncheon. After a delightful lunch, the holiday entertainment will begin with tiny ballerinas from Pasadena Civic Ballet. The program will continue with a fashion show featuring designs by Lourdes Chavez and will finish with the Grand Awards drawing of outstanding prizes. Every year over 500 people from Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, La Canada Flintridge and many other local communities attend this benefit. Tickets are $75 per person. Maria Kokoris of San Marino is the benefit chairperson and Philoptochos President. Other area residents on the event committee are Dorothea Malina of Glendale; Athena Dallas and Esther Vavoulis of La Cañada Flintridge; Irene Albeck, Kalli Bicos, Mary Ann Mallis, and Judy Christopoulos of Pasadena; Fontaine Malisos of Arcadia; Nicolette Fuerst of San Gabriel; and Jeanne Karaioannoglou, Maria Kypreos, and Sophia Syrengelas of Glendora.
