New home for La Cañada women’s clothier

Sitting at her new desk working on the newly-installed Wi-Fi, energy drink in hand, Frockx owner Joanna Nelson surveys the landscape of the new Foothill Boulevard home of her women’s clothing store, a few blocks west of its previous location.

“This is going to be a much better location for us, by far,” Nelson said. “I love the patio. I’ll use that for little parties.”

The 900-square-foot store is prominently featured on the corner of Lasheart and Foothill, across the street from La Cañada Flintridge City Hall in the former home of Botanicals.

“As soon as we saw this spot available, we jumped on it,” Nelson said.

The store’s heightened visibility is its biggest advantage and makes the move worth it, Nelson said.

“We’ve had walk-ins already,” said Nelson, whose new location opened Tuesday. “As I was unpacking, a new customer came in yesterday who had just moved here from Chicago. She got a great pair of jeans.”

With the help of some of her friends, Nelson completed the move on Saturday and Sunday. The store is still undergoing some improvements, but will be open in the meantime.

The decision to move came in August, when Nelson and the landlord of the 1111 Foothill property came to a disagreement. Nelson, who opened Frockx in 2005, began looking for a new place and spotted 1341 Foothill.

She met with her new landlord and the two sides came to an amicable agreement a few weeks ago.

Frockx’s new location is at 1341 Foothill Blvd. The store’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
