Travel film series continues

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada presents its second Travel Adventure film of the season on Saturday, Jan. 23, with “Cruising the Eastern Mediterranean,” presented by Mary Lee and Sid Nolan.

The film begins in Venice with views of the Piazza San Marcos from the ship’s deck. Ports-of-call are along the Dalmatian Coast, Greece and its islands, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt.

Dubrovnik, Olympia, Athens, Mykanos, Santorini, Rhodes, Cyprus, Haifa, and Jerusalem are visited, each offering an array of ancient archeological sites, charming harbors, flavorful foods and wines, and hospitable people.

Before heading back to Venice, the boat docks at Port Said, entrance to the Suez Canal. Visits are made to the pyramids of Giza, bustling Cairo, and ancient Alexandria.

Mary Lee and Sid Nolan have been working in the field of educational media production for over 35 years.

The film will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School, located at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Crown Avenue in La Cañada. Preprogram entertainment, beginning at 7:10 p.m., will feature Tom Burrows on piano and vocalist Wendy Alane Smith. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $8.

Kiwanis is hosting a book drive for their Inner City Literacy Program. There will be a collection box at the Travelogue entrance to acceptany new or slightly used chapter books suitable for second-grade students.

The proceeds from the travel film series help fund the youth programs of the La Cañada Kiwanis Foundation, which sponsors the Key clubs at LCHS and Flintridge Prep, a Builders and K-Kids Club. More than 200 young people are involved and they join the Kiwanis Family in the community in annually providing hundreds of hours of service to the community.

The Foundation also contributes to many local service projects and to youth organizations, both local and international.
