Monrovia trumps La Cañada on track

La Cañada lost to Monrovia in their first league meet of the year on Thursday, the boys’ side losing 69-57 and the girls’ side losing 68-59.

It was the Spartans’ first league meet of the year.

Brent Johnson took first place in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.67 seconds) and the 300 low hurdles (42.62).

In shotput, both David Miller and Shannon Denney won the event. Miller threw a 38 feet, 8 inches. Denney reached 33-4.75.

Adam Skaggs won the 1600-meter and Courtney Schulte had a personal record in the girls’ 400 (1:01.96).

Local tennis player wins title, going nat’l

La Cañada High tennis player Joshua Kim, 14, won the 32nd Annual Racquet Center Spring Junior Tennis Tournament in the Boys’ 16 and under division in Burbank.

Joshua has been selected to play in the Easter Bowl National Championships, a junior tennis tournament widely regarded as one of the country’s most prestigious junior competitions to be held Mid-April in Rancho Mirage. Joshua is ranked No. 14 in Southern California and ranked as one of the top 200 junior tennis players in the United States in the boys’ 14 and under division.

LCHS team wins alumni game

The members of the current La Cañada High boys’ soccer team defeated the alumni, 6-5, in the first annual La Cañada High boys’ soccer alumni game last week.
