La Cañada softball took down Maranatha in both games of a doubleheader Saturday.

The Spartans won the first game, 4-0, and the second 10-2.

“Maranatha’s a solid team,” said La Cañada Head Coach KC Mathews, whose team is ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division V coaches’ poll. “They definitely have some girls who can swing a bat. It was a good opportunity for us, and we played very well, defensively and offensively.

“To get the performance from [pitchers Megan] Martin and [Selena] Moore was a good find for us. Once we’d seen their pitchers a couple times, our bats got going.”

La Cañada had 10 hits in the first game and 15 in the second.

The Spartans’ Lauren O’Leary pitched a two-hitter in the first game and struck out 16.

Martin and Moore combined for the two-run pitching performance in the second game. Martin pitched the first four innings and Moore the final three.

“They’ve only thrown in practice, and in the game, they only gave up five hits and two runs, and only one was earned,” Mathews said. They did a fantastic job.”

Shortstop Anna Edwards went 5 for 9 in both games with a two-run home run. She had seven RBIs and a stolen base. Emily Valencia had two hits. Moore had two doubles on the day.

Aubri Thompson went 4 for 4 with two runs in the second game. Catherine Horner had three hits on the day with two doubles. Emily Valencia went 2 for 3 in the first game with an RBI and a run scored.
