Fourth of July events
Residents of the foothills looking for fireworks displays on the Fourth of July have two local options: Americafest 2010 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and the Crescenta Valley fireworks staged at the La Crescenta Elementary School playground. Although there will be no fireworks in La Cañada Flintridge, the Music in the Park concert will be staged from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Park.
Americafest 2010
The 84th annual Fourth of July celebration at the Rose Bowl begins at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Family Fun Festival and Food Court set up in Area H. At 7 p.m. there will be a performance of Drum Corps International, including a military tribute.
Two La Cañada residents, Tim Elftman and Sean Knuth, will be performing as members of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. Elftman, a 2008 graduate of La Cañada High, is now a student at Ohio State University, where he’s a member of its marching band. Knuth has instructed the LCHS Band battery section.
The evening will be capped by Americafest Fireworks produced by PyroSpectaculars.

Crescenta Valley Fireworks Assn. show
Gates will open at 4 p.m. at the La Crescenta Elementary School playground. The main entrance is off Prospect Avenue, just west of La Crescenta Avenue.
Music, rides and food will be offered at this event, suitable for all ages. The gates will close at 8:30 p.m., and the fireworks will begin shortly after 9 p.m.
Tickets are $5 each, with children 2 and under admitted free. Before July 4 tickets can be purchased at the following La Crescenta locations: Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce office, 3131 Foothill Blvd., Unit D, ( 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Bob Smith Toyota, 3333 Foothill Blvd. (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Crescenta Valley Insurance, 3156 Foothill Blvd., (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); J’s Maintenance, 3550 Foothill Blvd., (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); and Pacific Outdoor Living, 2729 Foothill Blvd. (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Tickets will also be available on July 4 after 12 p.m. at the corner of La Crescenta and Prospect avenues.

Music in the Park: Garratt Wilkin and the Parrotheads
Fans of Jimmy Buffett’s music will enjoy Sunday’s Music in the Park performance of Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads, a Buffett tribute band.
The free concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park, 1201 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge. Concert-goers are encouraged to pack picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs.
