Rehearsals got underway for the Foothill Youth Summer Theater’s production of the musical “Grease.” Performances would be staged at the La Cañada High School auditorium.

Paige Peterson of La Cañada was named Miss Photogenic of California and was second runner-up in the Miss California National Teenager Pageant. She was presented her trophies by Jennifer McCullogh, also of La Cañada, the previous year’s Miss California National Teenager.

Forty Years Ago

Two nuns who taught at St. Bede School were injured one Sunday evening in July 1970 when they were struck by a car while crossing Hampton Road at Foothill Boulevard. Sister Monica Mary Campbell and Sister Alish Downing were about halfway across the street when they were struck by a car driven by a 29-year-old man. Both were treated for injuries at Glendale Memorial Hospital.

Fifty Years Ago

Crescenta-Cañada YMCA officials reported their capital funds campaign had topped its $300,000 goal so they decided to try to raise $400,000 instead to build new facilities.
