CAMPS

Arbolado Mountain Camp — July 24-31. The YMCA of the Foothills offers this weeklong camp in Barton Flats near Big Bear Lake for boys and girls entering grades 3-7. Activities include high ropes course, hiking, swimming, campfires, canoeing, dance, arts & crafts, archery range and more. Cost to attend the camp is $362 for Y members, $404 for others. CLASSES

American Heart Assn. CPR & First Aid — Aug. 12 and 19. 6 p.m. Class sizes are limited and both certifications are for two years. The Heartsaver/AED (CPR) course, taught on Aug. 12, covers adult, child and infant CPR. The class lasts approximately three hours. Blood Drive — July 20, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s station in support of Huntington Hospital, the blood drive will be held at 4554 N. Briggs Ave., La Crescenta. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are suggested. Call (818) 236-4021. All donors will receive a coupon for a pint of ice cream from Baskin-Robbins.

Book Sale — July 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 24, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the La Cañada Flintridge Library, the Summer Fling Book Sale will feature thousands of used books: art, history, fiction, children’s and many other categories. All proceeds will be used to help fund library programs and materials. The library is located at 4545 N. Oakwood Ave., La Cañada.

Watermelon Festival —Aug 13,14,15, 5 p.m. to 1i p.m., 12 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 12 p.m.to 10:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club, the 49th annual Watermelon Festival will be held at Sunland Park. The event will feature carnival rides, watermelon eating contests and watermelon carving demonstrations. Proceeds support the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club which raises money to support others. PERFORMANCES

Hapa Pan-Polynesian music — July 24, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Main Lawn at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada. The sounds of Hawaii come alive in this performance, which will also feature native dances. Doors open at 6 p.m.. No outside food or drink is allowed, but Patina Catering will have food available for purchase. Tickets are $14 general admission, $10 for children and can be purchased through https://www.ticketweb.com.

‘John Williams & the Rings’ —July 25, 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Williams’ music performed by the Cal Phil orchestra. Main Lawn at The Arboretum, 301 N. Baldwin Ave, Arcadia, CA, 91007. The sound of classic film scores comes alive in this performance, which will feature music from “Star Wars,” “E.T.,” “Superman,” “The Terminal” and “Schindler’s List,” plus a soundtrack from “The Lord of the Rings.” Soloists include cellist Dennis Karmazyn and clarinetist Michael Arnold. The performance will also feature a laser show. Cantores Minores —July 26, 7:30 p.m. St Luke’s in-the-Mountains Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd, La Crescenta. The Warsaw Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys will perform a wide variety of sacred music. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ — July 27, 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum will present Shakespeare’s comedy in Descanso Gardens. Free with gardens’ admission, which is $8 adults, $6 senior/students and $3 for children 5-12. Guests may bring blankets to sit on and picnics, which are not normally allowed inside the gates. REUNIONS

La Cañada High School Class of 1970 — Oct. 8-9. A cocktail party will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Pasadena Hilton; the 40-year reunion dinner is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 9, also at the Pasadena Hilton, 168 S. Los Robles.
