‘Honolulu’ chosen by One City One Book

The La Cañada Flintridge One City One Book Committee on Tuesday announced it has chosen “Honolulu” by Alan Brennert for this year’s communitywide reading program.

“Honolulu” is about the Asian immigrant experience in Hawaii during the early 20th century, specifically about a “picture bride” from Korea who travels to Hawaii and finds that her life is not as she expected it would be.

Brennart will appear at a special event set for 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board meeting room, 4490 Cornishion Ave. During the event the author will discuss the work, answer questions and sign copies of his books.
