A memorial service for Dick DeGrey, the former La Cañada civic leader who died Dec. 30, has been set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Glendale First United Methodist Church, 134 N. Kenwood St., Glendale.

DeGrey, whose complete obituary ran in the Jan. 6 edition of the Valley Sun, was a longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident who served as a city commissioner and held leadership roles in the local Kiwanis Club, LCF Tournament of Roses Assn., Boy Scouts and La Cañada Junior Baseball. He and his wife Shirley were co-awardees of many civic awards, including the Les Tupper Community Service, La Cañadan of the Year and the public schools’ Spirit of Outstanding Service. He was also an active member of La Cañada United Methodist Church.

He had a long career with Lockheed Aircraft, where he was an integral part of the Skunk Works group and was a program manager for the P-38 Lightning and SR-71 Blackbird aircraft.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either: Alzheimer’s Association, 5900 Wilshire Blvd., #1000, Los Angeles, CA 90036; or to the Richard P. DeGrey Memorial Fund at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011.
