Slide Show, “Out of the Station Fire Ashes” — Wednesday, March 2, 6:30 p.m. La Cañada resident and mountain cyclist Mike Caley rides regularly in the burn area, with special permission. A member of the California Native Plant Society, Caley will share his photographs of the recovery of the Angeles National Forest, from stunning floral displays to the return of insects, reptiles and mammals. The presentation covers the fire, its aftermath and stages of regeneration. This event will take place at the La Cañada Flintridge Library, 4545 Oakwood Ave., La Cañada.

EXHIBITS

Mad for Hats! — Through June 12, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. This new exhibition at Pasadena Museum of History, 470 W. Walnut St., Pasadena, explores 100 years of hats. An in-depth, docent-led tour will be offered at 12:15 p.m. Fridays, beginning March 4. An optional tea following the tour has been arranged at the Tea Rose Garden in Old Pasadena. Tickets: Pasadena Museum of History members $4; non-members $8. Tea is $25, payable at the restaurant, with 20% returned as a donation to the museum. The Southern California Camellia Council Show will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27. The Pacific Camellia Society Late Bloomers Show will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

KIDS’ PICKS

Lapidary Art class for children ages 6-10 — Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Learn about the art of rock polishing, including some hands-on practice. Kidspace Children’s Museum 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena 91103. The workshop fee is $7 per child and accompanying adult, in addition to regular Museum admission, which is $10; children under 12 months and members are admitted free.

Presidents Day fun — Monday, Feb. 21, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Celebrate Presidents Day at Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena 91103. Participants will create cherry trees and patriotic parade wands, design Abraham Lincoln “stovepipe” hats and edible log cabins. Museum admission is $10. La Cañada Flintridge Republican Committee — Wednesday, Feb. 23, 6:30 social mixer, 7 p.m. dinner. Guest speaker is Capt. Dave Silversparre, commander of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. PERFORMANCE

Songs of Spirit Concert Series — Saturday, Feb. 26, 7:30 p.m. La Cañada United Methodist Church, 104 Berkshire Place, La Cañada, launches its new concert series with “Freedom Songs” in celebration of Black History Month. Directed by David Wulff, the concert will showcase artists Jason Luckett on guitar and David Crittendon on piano. The featured songs are by Jason Luckett, Bessie Smith, Pete Seeger, Billy Taylor and Steve Earle. There will also be a medley of freedom songs from Mississippi’s “Freedom Summer,” the 1964 project to register African-American voters. General admission is $9; seniors $7.50; and youth under 16, $5. Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.

Salon Recital, L.A. Children’s Chorus and L.A. Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour — Saturday, Feb. 26, 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Chalifour and the 15-member Children’s Chorus Chamber Singers, including La Cañada Flintridge resident Kelsey Haley, appear in an intimate recital at the Hale Observatory.
