J. Craig Chevrolet agency on Verdugo Boulevard across the street from Verdugo Hills Hospital went out of business, and there was talk that La Cañada Flintridge could get its first movie theater complex at the site.

The La Cañada Youth House (today the Community Center of LCF) in 1981 was offering classes on how to use microwave ovens. Each class met for six three-hour sessions and was geared toward people who owned the relatively new household appliance but were not adept at using it.

Scores of La Cañadans headed to the town of San Vicente in Baja California in the spring of 1971 to assist with the building of a trade and agricultural high school there. The locals were recruited largely through the efforts of A. Nash Williams of Chehalem Road, who used his ham radio to transmit requests for help from the Flying Samaritans group.
