Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Arson and Explosives Unit are looking into a suspicious car fire that happened just after 2 a.m. on April 19 in the driveway of a La Cañada Flintridge home.

“It’s a suspicious fire, and we’re still investigating,” said Det. Greg Everett, who confirmed that the fire occurred on the 900 block of Regent Park Drive.

Firefighters with L.A. County Fire Station 82 in La Cañada who responded to the blaze found the car, identified as a Volkswagen Jetta, burning intensely by the time they arrived, said Capt. Bob Funky.

“The car was well involved when we got there,” he said. “It was a total loss.”

Everett said it was unclear when the unit’s investigation might wrap up, but described it as a “routine” check of circumstances leading to the fire.
