Verdugo Hills Hospital Community Blood Drive — Thursday, June 9, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross, will be held in the council rooms at Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd., Glendale. Community Center of LCF Spring Ceramics Sale — Friday, June 10, 3 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, June 11, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 50 artists will be represented in this sale at the Community Center, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Cañada. A reception with light refreshments will be held Friday, from 3 to 8 p.m. Ceramics of all techniques will be offered for sale, and many of them will be Raku pieces that were fired during recent sessions at the center. Money raised goes to buy shelves and equipment for the ceramics program and to a fund earmarked for the purchase of a new kiln. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Father’s Day at Descanso — Sunday, June 19. Barbecue meal available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Relax on Descanso Gardens’ Main Lawn and enjoy barbecue selections prepared by Patina Catering. Limited tables and chairs will be available, so take folding chairs and blankets to sit on. No outside picnics allowed. Qualifying Tournament for the Trusted Choice Big 1 Junior Classic — Tuesday, June 21. The Insurance Brokers and Agents of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena host this local qualifying tournament at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale. All youths through age 18 who will not reach their 19th birthday before Aug. 1 are eligible. Boys and girls will play in separate divisions. Cost is $35 per player and will include 18 holes of golf and awards. Descanso Discoveries Camp — Week of June 20. Descanso Gardens partners with the Child Educational Center to present a day camp to challenge inquisitive young minds. Camp is open to children entering grades one to six. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. The CEC will provide morning and after-care at no extra charge. Cost: $400. Songs of Love and Laughter — Thursday, June 9, 7:30 p.m. This “Music for Charity” concert will be presented at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 808 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. The concert is free, but donations will be matched up to $5,000 by Baxter Healthcare Corporation. All proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, California Southland. Featuring the St. George’s Quartet, violinist Kirstin Fife and accompanist Connie Grisham.

Classical Chamber Concert — Friday, June 10, 7 p.m. La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta 91214. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted and will benefit families in Tijuana, Mexico. Featured musicians are Andrew, John and Karen Hayhurst, who play the cello, viola and flute respectively; oboist Marion Kuszck, violinists Robert Gupta and Serena McKinney, violist Andrew Duckels and pianist Vivian Fan.

Pops Concert “Last Train to Musicville”— Friday, June 10, 8 p.m.; Saturday, June 11, 4 p.m. The 50-voice La Cañada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, Pops Dancers and Jack Lantz’s seven-piece Little Big Band will be featured. The community is invited to get on board for this concert, performed in the church sanctuary, which will explore popular American music inspired by rail travel. Music in the Park: The MIXX — Sunday, June 12, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The MIXX, featuring vocals by LA County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Angela Shepherd, will perform classic rock tunes as part of the 2011 Summer Music in the Park concert series co-sponsored by the city of La Cañada Flintridge and the La Cañada Valley Sun. Pack a picnic and tote blankets and lawn chairs to settle in on the lawn for a free concert. Jimmy Branly in Descanso Gardens — Thursday, June 23, 5:30 p.m. Jimmy Branly kicks off the 10-week Descanso Jazz Series. Bring a picnic. Free with Gardens admission, which is $8 adults, $6 seniors/students; $3 children 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger.

La Cañada Flintridge Shakespeare Festival — Thursdays through Sundays, June 24 to July 31, 8 p.m. Theater company VanguardRep presents its annual Shakespeare Festival. The world premieres of “After the Autumn” and “Tragic Women” will play in repertory with a further adaptation of last year’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The festival will take place outdoors in the Byrnes Amphitheater on the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy campus, 440 St. Katherine Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. Parking is free. Ticket prices are $29 Friday/Saturday; $25 Thursday/Sunday; $12 students 18 and under. Festival passes are $48 for adults and $22 for students. La Cañada High School, Class of 1971 — Saturday, Sept. 24. Although the time and specific venue have not yet been announced, this Spartan reunion will be held in Old Town Pasadena.
