Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station to host memorial dedication

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station will be hosting a pubic dedication ceremony for its recently-completed memorial to fallen officers on Monday, October 24, at 9:30 a.m.

Sheriff Lee Baca and L.A. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich will be on hand for the ceremony, and along with Crescenta Valley Station personnel will dedicate the memorial.

The memorial, a semi-circular stone structure with a raised bronze Sheriff’s star in its inner paved area, bears a bronze memorial plaque bearing the names of Deputy David Horr and Reserve Dep. Charles Rea. Horr was shot on Dec. 7 1957 while responding to a domestic violence call and Rea drowned on Jan. 16, 1969 while attempting to reach victims of flooding in Big Tujunga Canyon.

The memorial, which cost around $20,000, was built with funds raised by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Support Group.
