Crime Blotter, Jan. 12: $10,900 in jewelry stolen from home

Area 1

4800 block of Sunset Avenue: A home was burglarized while its owners were on vacation. The burglary took place sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 and 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan 6. The victims’ pet sitter arrived at the house to discover that a window on one of the home’s doors had been shattered, the door unlocked and the house’s bedrooms ransacked. Because the victims were still on vacation, a list of stolen items could not be compiled.

4000 block of Foothill Boulevard: A 23-year-old La Crescenta man was arrested for possession of heroin with intent to sell and the possession of a loaded firearm at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5. Deputies noticed the man make an illegal turn in his Ford Focus and pulled him over, after which they saw a hypodermic needle in plain view in the car. The suspect admitted to deputies that he had heroin on his person. After being arrested, he told deputies that he had a gun, more heroin, and a scale and plastic bags used to sell the heroin in the car.

Area 2

4700 block of Daleridge Road: A safe containing more than 20 items of jewelry, passports and Social Security cards was stolen from a home sometime between 9:40 a.m. and 3:09 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The home appeared to have been entered through the unlocked garage, after which the safe was apparently placed in the owner’s laundry hamper and carried out of the home. The rest of the house was left untouched.

5200 block of Diamond Point Road: A MacBook, a Canon PowerShot camera and $20,000 of jewelry was reported stolen in a burglary that occurred sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 4 p.m .on Thursday, Jan. 5. The home’s kitchen window screen had been removed and the bedrooms ransacked.

800 block of Chehalem Road: A blue recycling bin from Athens Services was stolen from in front of a residence sometime between 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

4600 block of Alveo Road: Four pairs of sunglasses, a flashlight, and a set of San Diego Superbowl seat cushions were stolen from an unlocked Nissan Xterra while it was parked in its owner’s driveway sometime between 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Area 3

500 block of Foothill Boulevard: A woman’s wallet containing credit cards and a checkbook was stolen from inside her purse while she was shopping at the Ralphs Market on Foothill Boulevard at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. Security camera footage showed a woman reaching into the victim’s purse and removing the wallet and then quickly walking out of the store.

4300 block of Cornishon Avenue: A Dell laptop, a Kindle reader and $10,900 in pearl, diamond and gold necklaces, bracelets and earrings were stolen from a home sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4. The victim said all windows and doors were locked, but the home had a pet door that accommodated a St. Bernard dog, which deputies reported as the likely entry point to the home.
