City revises utility pole banner policy

Share

The City Council on Tuesday voted to amend city policy to allow for the posting of banners on Southern California Edison utility poles along Verdugo Boulevard, Gould Avenue, Town Center Drive and Sport Chalet Drive. The decision was discussed at prior meetings and approved unanimously, along with 14 other actions, as part of the meeting’s consent calendar.

Previously, banners were permitted by the city on SCE poles only along Foothill Boulevard, although SCE permits the posting of banners on all non-wooden poles throughout the city.

The city identified 11 poles on Verdugo Boulevard and two poles on Gould Avenue that would be visible and able to display banners.

The council had earlier discussed allowing banners to be posted on Angeles Crest Highway, but due to the amount of city signage and traffic signals there, decided against it for fear of creating a distraction for drivers.
