BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Muir 73, Glendale 65: Senior Andre Frazier led the Mustangs with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Muir clinched a share of the Pacific League title after the home victory Friday evening coupled with Pasadena’s 61-60 loss to Crescenta Valley.

“I don’t know the last time this program won a league title,” Muir Coach Gamal Smalley said. “This has been a special season for us and we still have some work to do.”

Jelani Mitchell added 17 points and the duo of Dion Nelson and Tevin Polk both scored 13 points apiece for the Mustangs (23-1, 12-0 in league), who received eight rebounds off the bench from Brian Carrier.

Flintridge Prep 78, Chadwick 58: Chadd Cosse finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds Friday to help the visiting Rebels win their fifth straight Prep League championship and 10th in the last 11 seasons.

Jedrick Eugenio added 16 points for the Rebels, who improved to 16-7, 7-0.

“It’s great to have a program that’s been a model of consistency,” said Flintridge Prep Coach Garrett Ohara, who got 15 points, six assists and five steals from Robert Cartwright and 14 points from Kory Hamane.

St. Francis 70, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 60: Emerson Castaneda led the Golden Knights to a Mission League home win on Friday night. St. Francis (10-14, 3-7) also got 15 points from Zack Gardea, 13 points from Tei Vanderford and 12 from Justin Trout.

Maranatha 63, Los Angeles Baptist 53: Junior guard Jeremy Major scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Minutemen to an Olympic League home victory on Friday night.

With the win, Maranatha (18-5, 5-1) travels to Village Christian on Tuesday evening with a chance to split a league championship.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Poly 57, Mayfield 23: Michelle Miller scored a game-high 27 points and added 15 rebounds and three blocks, while Kiki Yang totaled 19 points, nine steals and six assists for the Panthers (18-4, 9-0) in Prep League play Friday afternoon.

Carrie Morris led the Cubs (12-6, 5-4) with 12 points.

Muir 63, Glendale 36: Tahniya Sweatt tallied a game-high 18 points and six steals, as the duo of Shaela Flynn and Emoni Jackson (12 rebounds) added 17 points each for the Mustangs in a Pacific League home victory Friday afternoon.

Brandi Dubose added 17 rebounds for Muir (23-3, 12-0), which clinched the league championship.

Crescenta Valley 61, Pasadena 50: The Bulldogs (12-12, 5-7) dropped their second straight Pacific League game on Friday afternoon.

Nyree Joukadarian scored 15 points for Pasadena and Megan Rutherford added 10 points.

Chadwick 45, Flintridge Prep 37: Maya Okamoto’s team-high 16 points weren’t enough to lead the Rebels past Chadwick at home Friday night.

Kinsey Thompson added six points and eight rebounds for Prep (7-14, 2-7).

Mayfield 44, Chadwick 39: The Cubs came out on top of a back-and-forth Prep League game in overtime Thursday night behind a team-high 14 points from Juliana Zovak.

Carrie Morris did it all for Mayfield, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Erika Lin added seven points and five blocks for the Cubs.

BOYS SOCCER

St. Francis 1, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 0: Between their Mission League home win over Notre Dame and Loyola’s 1-0 defeat of Harvard-Westlake, the Golden Knights assumed control of their own destiny in the league title chase on Friday. The Cubs currently hold a three-point lead over St. Francis (7-7-7, 6-1-3 in league), but the Golden Knights have one more game remaining on their schedule than Loyola, including Wednesday’s season finale at Loyola.

Eric Bocanegra scored the game’s only goal in the 23rd minute after tracking down the rebound of his own shot and putting it away.

South Pasadena 6, Blair 1: The Tigers went up, 4-0, at halftime and breezed to a Rio Hondo League victory Friday afternoon.

Chris Mejia and Daniel Zurita each scored a pair of goals for the Tigers (10-3-3, 5-2-1), while Heven Gomez and Steven Blackwell added additional scores.

La Cañada 4, San Marino 1: Armand Bagramyan scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Spartans (13-5-3, 6-0-2) to a victory in an abbreviated Rio Hondo League road contest Friday afternoon.

Marc Kaesler and Filip Franke added goals and Jeff Becker and Garrett Apel chipped in assists for La Cañada, which received four saves from Graham Labran-Boyd.

John Silk scored for San Marino (5-9-2, 1-5-2) as the game was stopped after 50 minutes when San Marino’s Paul Myint broke his leg.

La Salle 1, Bishop Montgomery 0: Andrew Powers scored a 60th-minute goal off an assist from Briley Venti and backup keeper Stephen Wright secured a shutout despite getting kicked in the face in a Del Rey League road victory Friday afternoon for the Lancers (13-3-5, 5-1).

Maranatha 1, Los Angeles Baptist 0: Jeromy Gurule scored the lone goal for the Minutemen (8-10-6, 5-0-2) in an Olympic League road contest Friday afternoon as Kevin Geddes provided the assist.

Nick Dechant totaled two saves for Maranatha.

Poly 3, Webb 1: Senior Jack Birkenbeuel scored a goal and Matt Rossi added two additional scores for the Panthers (10-5-2, 5-1), who led, 3-1, at halftime in the Prep League affair Thursday afternoon.

Benoy Menon added two assists for the Panthers, who received five saves from goalie Chris Ward.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: Breeana Koemans, Miranda Saldivar and Laura Thompson all scored goals for the Tologs in a Mission League road win on Friday.

Hanna Armendariz had two assists for Sacred Heart (11-4-2, 4-2-1).

Poly 3, Chadwick 1: Sarah Mendenhall, Noel Askins and Katie Wardlaw all scored goals for the Panthers in a Prep League road victory Friday afternoon.

Mendenhall and Wardlaw also added assists for Poly (16-3, 6-2), which received five saves from goalie Julia Yun.

South Pasadena 6, Blair 0: Kelly Brady netted two goals for the Tigers (13-2-5, 5-0-3), who went up, 3-0, at halftime en route to a Rio Hondo League victory Friday afternoon.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Poly 14, Webb 4: The Panthers went up, 9-0, in the first quarter and rolled to a Prep League victory Friday afternoon.

Lindsey Kelleher set a single-season school record with her 80th goal this season in the first quarter, breaking Martha Whitmore’s record of 79 in 2002, as she finished with five goals.

Catherine Finney and Hannah Grotzinger both scored three goals each for Poly and goalie Mimi Morrish finished with four saves.

Mayfield 16, Flintridge Prep 5: Suzanna Tan scored two goals for the Rebels in a Prep League loss on Friday.

Erin Philips, Katrina Boyd and Kate Woolley all scored for Prep (7-8, 3-7).

Monrovia 9, La Cañada 5: The Spartans dropped a Rio Hondo League game at home Thursday but had four goals from Shelby Powell.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Mt. San Antonio College 74, Pasadena City College 62: Despite a game-high 19 points from Jerrick Thomas, the Lancers fell in a home South Coast Conference game to archrival Mt. SAC on Friday evening.

Kameron Burch added 11 points, Ryan McGrath scored 10 points and Lorelle Martin added 15 rebounds for the Lancers (13-11, 4-5).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Mt. San Antonio College 77, Pasadena City College 53: Marquetta Stokes finished with a team-high 14 points and Stella Ghazarian added 10 for PCC, but the Lancers (12-12, 6-6) fell to vaunted rival Mt. SAC at home in South Coast Conference play Friday afternoon.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Pasadena City College 2, Oxnard College 1: PCC second baseman Maddy Gianoli batted three for three and scored a run, while left-handed starter Casey Martinez (1-1) allowed just four hits over five innings for Pasadena (2-4) in nonconference play Friday afternoon.
