School board now on Facebook

The La Cañada school board now has its own Facebook page, the first in a series of steps district officials have promised to take in order to better facilitate communication with the public.

In December, school board member Susan Boyd proposed the creation of a public relations and communications committee that would explore the use of Twitter and Facebook, among other mediums.

Boyd and fellow schol board member Andrew Blumenfled were tapped as co-chairs. At the time, Blumenfeld said that he wanted to move quickly on the creation of a board-specific Facebook page that couple be used to post important documents, including board meeting agendas and minutes.

The Facebook page, which as of Monday afternoon had been “liked” by 47 people, and a possible Twitter account might also serve to communicate with families during emergency situations, such as the windstorm-related school closures in December, Boyd said.
