High school debate team heading to state finals

Share

With their best showing in more than a decade, the La Cañada High School speech and debate team is sending four of its members to the state finals to be held at Lowell High School on April 27 to 29.

The squad’s parliamentary debate team, comprising seniors Tyler Jones and Sam Whitefield, and public forum team, senior Andrew Park and sophomore Yongsoo Kim, both triumphed at the Southern California Debate League final held last month.

Should Jones, Whitefield, Park and Kim succeed at the state finals, they would take the national stage at the National Forensics League competition.

“I am so proud of our speech and debate team. These talented students fought hard and achieved the recognition they deserved,” said Susan Moore, LCHS English teacher and team coach. “I look forward to getting ready for the state tournament; we have many hours of research and practice ahead of us. I am honored to be a small part of their success.”
