Kamala Harris honors Crescenta Valley sheriff’s deputy

Share

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Marcelo Ruiz, who works out of the Crescenta Valley sheriff’s station, recently received the Attorney General’s Certificate of Peace Officer Valor for his actions in September 2011, when he used his patrol car to safely stop a runaway vehicle in La Crescenta.

On Sept. 22 Ruiz and other officers tried to stop a car for speeding on Foothill Boulevard when the driver indicated through her gestures that her brakes had failed and she could not slow the car. She turned onto Pennsylvania Avenue, where Ruiz sped ahead of her and then positioned his patrol car directly in front of the runaway and slowly brought both to a safe stop.

Ruiz received the award in late March from California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
