La Cañada crime blotter, June 3: Man allegedly assaulted by suspects wielding pipe wrench

May 22

Theft and vandalism: 1919 Verdugo Blvd., 3 p.m. A fire extinguisher was stolen from inside the United Artists movie theater. Around the same time, five seats in one of the auditoriums sustained an estimated $500 in damage, apparently from being kicked.

Mail theft: 4700 block of Palm Drive, after 8 p.m. A letter containing a check worth $612 was taken from a mailbox.

May 21

Theft: 1400 block of Descanso Drive, after 5:30 p.m. Power tools valued at $3,900, including drills, a jigsaw, a welder and sander were taken from the Descanso Gardens storage room. An exterior metal fence was vandalized. An interior chain link gate and metal latch to the storage room were cut.

May 19

Theft: 400 block of Meadowview Drive, before noon: Two FedEx packages, containing prescription medication and soccer shoes, were taken from in front of a home.

Assault: 5100 block of Cloud Avenue, 5:30 p.m. Two suspects, one wielding a pipe wrench, assaulted another man. The victim said one suspect hit him in the leg with the wrench, the attack lasted one to two minutes and neither attacker said anything before fleeing. The victim suffered multiple abrasions and a broken thumb.

Vandalism: 4300 block of Rosemont Avenue, 8 a.m. or earlier: A Ford Excursion received an estimated $4,200 in damage to paint caused by eggs and scratches running the length of the vehicle.

May 22

Auto burglary: 2900 block of Alabama Street, after 9 p.m. A man’s wristwatch was taken from a cup holder in an unlocked Mercedes S430 parked in a residential driveway. At the same time, on the 3000 block of the same street, a purse, wallet and pair of sunglasses were taken from an unlocked GMC Yukon.

Auto burglary: 4500 block of Rosemont Avenue, 6:30 p.m. or later. An iPod stereo console and several textbooks were taken from an unlocked Isuzu SUV.
