Crime report, June 24: Musician punched outside Sakana Japanese restaurant

June 17

Battery: 2300 block of Foothill Boulevard, 8:15 p.m. A man was accosted and punched outside Sakana Japanese restaurant. The victim, a musician, was taking a break from performing at the restaurant when a man shouted and tried to punch him. The victim dodged the punch, but tripped and fell on his back, and the assailant punched him about 10 times. A bandmate bear-hugged the assailant and released him after his colleague was safely inside. The assailant walked away.

Fraud: 475 Foothill Blvd., before 4 p.m. Two counterfeit $20 bills were used at Starbucks.

June 16

Vandalism: 4300 block of Beulah Drive, 3 a.m. Window of a Honda Accord smashed.

Auto burglary: 1000 block of Inverness Drive, 10:15 a.m. or earlier. Prescription sunglasses taken.

Theft: 895 Foothill Blvd., after 7:30 p.m. Two Samsung Galaxy cellphones taken.

June 13

Auto burglary: 5400 block of Ocean View Boulevard, 1 a.m. or later. Window of Honda Accord smashed, a Fujitsu laptop computer, reported as worth $3,000, taken.

June 12

Attempted fraud: 749 Foothill Blvd., 11 a.m. A man tried to withdraw $950 from a Chase Bank account with a fake driver’s license, but was rebuffed by the bank manager. The man had the correct Social Security number and address of the account holder, but did not have the account number or an ATM card. He left when the teller was contacting the bank’s fraud prevention group.
