Local law enforcement officers, firefighters and first-responders got a chance to interact with people whose lives were not in danger and who were not engaged in criminal activity Tuesday night during the 29th annual National Night Out.

The event gave public safety officers a chance to relax as they met with residents, offered safety tips and delivered a message of crime and drug prevention.

Outside the Vons on Foothill Boulevard on Tuesday night, children got their fingerprints taken by Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s volunteers and enjoyed demonstrations of safety equipment by Montrose Search and Rescue volunteers.

Capt. David Silversparre was among the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station representatives on hand, along with California Highway Patrol officers and L.A. County Fire Department firefighters.

The same agencies hosted a concurrent event at the Ralphs in La Crescenta.
