Montrose Search and Rescue found an injured hiker shortly after starting a search for him on the Switzer trail in the Angeles National Forest on Thursday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.

Lt. Tonya Edwards of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s station said the rescue team was activated at 5:20 p.m. Thursday to look for a young male hiker.

Search and Rescue team member John Rodarte said the hiker and his wife were returning from Switzer Falls and were about 1.5 miles from the trailhead when the man fell off a log and broke his ankle.

Los Angeles County firefighters loaded him into a wheeled cart and crews rolled him out of the forest to his car around 7 p.m. His wife took him to a local hospital for treatment.
