La Cañada resident named to state special ed commission

La Cañada Flintridge resident Diane Fazzi has been appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to the state’s Advisory Commission on Special Education, the governor’s office announced Thursday.

Fazzi, 50, is a former special education teacher and administrator who is now the acting associate dean at California State University, Los Angeles, where she has served in various positions since 1992. She holds a doctorate in special education and educational psychology from a joint program of CSULA and UCLA.

The Commission on Special Education meets at least four times a year to offer recommendations to the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Legislature and the governor. Commissioners are not compensated.
