La Cañada Elementary School will lose its new principal for a few months this year, with a familiar face returning to the district on a temporary basis.

Principal Christine Castillo, who started last month as the principal at La Cañada Elementary, is expected to take maternity leave this winter, according to a memo from La Cañada Unified School District Supt. Wendy Sinnette to school parents. Castillo will be out for between two and three months.

She will be replaced by Susan Kobilarcsik, who taught fifth and sixth grade at La Cañada Elementary for 10 years and later was principal at Foothills Schools, a special education program formerly run by the district.

Sinnette stated she expects the transition to be “smooth and seamless” and that Kobilarcsik will work on campus with Castillo from time to time before Castillo goes on leave in mid-December.
