La Cañada High School water polo parents might have longed to jump in the school pool as temperatures topped 100 degrees on Sept. 15, but instead they dutifully worked a rummage sale nearby that raised nearly $500.

Deb Stolmack, mother of an eighth-grade water polo player, Jake, and a high school softball pitcher, Alyssa, was a key organizer of the event and said survival required “a lot of water and a sense of humor.”

Water polo parents and members of the community donated items, including a ton of sports equipment, to make the sale a success. Stolmack said parents hope to add more poolside canopies, among other items on a wish list. Proceeds of the sale will go to improvements for the pool area.
