The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station is bolstering crime prevention efforts in light of a spike in residential burglaries that has hit La Cañada Flintridge.

Working with the city of La Cañada Flintridge and other agencies, on Tuesday Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s deputies visited parolees and swept La Cañada and surrounding communities in a burglary prevention effort, Sgt. Burton Brink said in a release. Officers made multiple arrests for marijuana, pornography, syringe possession and an outstanding warrant. One parolee was caught with a gun, according to Brink.

In 2012, La Cañada Flintridge has seen a 40% increase in residential burglaries compared to 2011.

Brink said he could not release detailed information about the arrests because investigations are ongoing. But he said law enforcement agencies have made 13 arrests in connection with local burglaries this year, including one made Tuesday night by the LAPD Foothill Division that led to recovery of a significant amount of stolen property.

Brink said that the suspects in local burglaries generally do not reside in the area, and are coming to the community to specifically to commit crimes.

Residents are asked to call (818) 248-3464 if they see people acting suspiciously and to call 911 iin the case of an emergency.
