A man and a women were arrested in La Cañada Flintridge on suspicion of selling magazines without a permit, authorities said.

Long Beach resident Reginald Nelson, 53, and Amber Alfred, 29 and of St. Louis, Mo., were arrested on Jan. 7 around 4 p.m., said Sgt. Debra Herman of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Two residents had reported suspicious incidents to officers in which Nelson and Alfred allegedly tried to sell magazines door-to-door without a permit, said Herman. The suspects allegedly became aggressive when their offers were refused.

Officers found Nelson and Alfred walking around residential neighborhoods separately, said Herman.

They were in an area where burglaries have occurred, she added.

Herman said that it’s important for residents to call whenever they notice suspicious behavior. “We cannot do this job by ourselves. To make it better for everyone we have to have community support.”
