La Cañada City Council to change RV storage, tree trimming laws
The La Cañada Flintridge City Council will discuss two laws on Tuesday that would regulate storage of recreational vehicles and the trimming and removal of protected trees.
The first proposal would require a tree removal permit to take down any protected tree. The permit would not be needed to remove a dead tree. Under the ordinance, homeowners can trim a protected tree on their property.
The city, under the proposed law, will fine residents who damage a protected tree or cause one to die. They will also fine residents who remove a protected tree without a permit or remove a tree in an emergency situation without notifying the city.
The fines will be established by the city and updated periodically.
Under the RV proposal, residents wishing to store a recreational vehicle on their property must undergo a review. The city would notify the neighbors of the RV owner as part of the process. The process would cost $730 per applicant.
Officials decided to ax language in the ordinance that defined a recreational vehicle.
During Tuesday’s meeting, Council members will also discuss allowing additional drive-through restaurants in the downtown area. The Planning Commission has recommended that the council not allow such establishments at this time.
Officials will award the Ultimate Destination Point project to a contractor during Tuesday’s meeting. The project, which would install water fountains for hikers and horses and create a rest area, could be completed as early as this summer.
The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 1327 Foothill Blvd.
